The Office (US) S2 E4 - 'The Fire' Mini-Review

Win To Play.

In the weakest entry of the season so far, Michael tries to grow closer to Ryan as a jealous Dwight fights for his adoration. Jealousy seems to be the theme of the day in this episode, as Pam's jealousy over Jim and Katy continues to flourish. I hope soon this all boils over into some development of the Pam/Jim plotline. I found Michael, Dwight and Ryan's scenes less interesting, with few gags or effective one-liners appearing throughout. For a show which relies on its laugh factor and plot, this episode failed to deliver much progress in either area.

BEST MOMENTS

• “You also have to win to play”
• Michael sprinting out of the office was brilliant
• “Stanley, have you ever seen a burn victim?”
• “Adapt, React, Readapt. Apt”
• Michael’s DMC with Ryan
• “I’m really uncomfortable” – amazing
• “I hope the war goes on forever and Ryan gets drafted”
• “I would definitely have sex with Ryan”
• Michael’s phone going off in his pocket was timed perfectly

• Pam was so super jealous at the end there, wow!

DID YOU KNOW?!*

  • Michael says, "Much advice you seek" in a Yoda voice, which Ryan mistakes for Fozzie Bear. Both characters are voiced by Frank Oz
  • Originally the 1st episode of the season
  • Michael's ring tone is Lou Bega's song "Mambo #5", which he did a parody of during the Dundies in episode 1 of this season
  • Dwight mentions that in the count off Ryan can be number 14 as "Marjorie isn't here", this is the only mention of Marjorie in the show. However, he may be referring to Madge from the warehouse, as Madge is a short form of Marjorie who appears later in the series
RATING: 7.8/10
