The Office (US) S4 E7/8 - 'Money' Mini-Review

The American Dream.

Michael struggles to stay afloat financially, whilst Jim and Pam spend a night at Schrute Farms. Both sub-plots in this fourth and final (for now) two part episode were enticing and hilarious, particularly seeing Michael working another office job (where he is LOVED and popular! OF COURSE he is!). The comedy was also strong in Schrute Farms, and seeing three of the core characters outside of the office environment allowed for extra emotional depth. In fact it was the emotional strength of this episode that struck me the most. Watching Jim attempt to help Dwight through a difficult break-up was a heartfelt and beautiful moment, which felt REAL. I actually got quite emotional myself during this scene as it dug up memories of my own. The closing scene with Jan talking Michael down out from his panic attack was another moving moment and the first time I kind of liked Jan. My only hope is that Dwight is able to move on soon, and I am looking forward to shorter episodes from here until the end of the season! LET THE BINGE-WATCHING COMMENCE!

BEST MOMENTS
  • "Conniving little runt... put him through!"
  • Agrotourism
  • "Gives me a chance to sow my wild oats"
  • Scrantonicity 2
  • Poor Michael running 2 jobs!
  • The Beets Motel
  • Mose running alongside the car
  • Schrute Farms BnB!
  • Michael - "These meetings are useless" - BRILLIANT!
    • Michael hasn't made a sale yet!!
  • "Didn't think Dwight would be involved at all"
    • "Some manure... just less"
  • Michael calling Stanley!!!!!
  • "When I'm at home at night in my own house in my sweats, drinking some red wine, watching my mystery stories, the last thing in the whole godforsaken world I want to hear is the voice of Michael Scott"
  • Dwight reading Harry Potter to Jim and Pam
  • "I wonder what I would've been back home"
  • "Medical school must've cost like 40 bucks or a donkey or something"
  • Michael's Die Hard chat
  • Love that Michael has friends at his other job and is popular in the office!
  • Vikram is hilarious
  • "How's my favourite branch doing?!" [SILENCE]
  • "Up comes the toolbar... that's what she said"
  • Kelly kissing Darryl in front of Ryan
  • [Michael about Oscar] "Not a native speaker"
  • Nobody saw Kevin's band :(
  • "How did Ryan use it? As an object?" "As an object." "Ryan used me as an object"
  • "Do you know anybody in the mob?"
  • "That was cold"
  • "If they're having sex... what it looks like-"
  • Darryl and Kelly I fully rate as a couple
  • "Like the witness protection program?" Creed - "Exactly!" Oscar - "Not at all"
  • "I DECLARE BANKRUPTCYYYY!!"
  • Actually a cute move by Andy giving a cat to Angela
  • "You're a presentation tool"
  • Jim talking to Dwight was the most heartfelt scene of the office I have seen and was the first time I have ever actually LIKED Jim
  • The shot of Michael and Jan's legs was a particularly cinematic angle and added a lot to an already heavily emotional scene
  • "I think the engineer left"
  • Jan and Michael's final conversation about her breast implants
DID YOU KNOW?!*
  • In the episode "Money", Creed states he has never declared bankruptcy and transfers his debt to William Charles Schneider, which is the actor Creed Bratton's birth name. The passport Creed holds up gives a birth date of February 8th, 1943, which is the actor's actual date of birth
  • Michael quotes 'The Devil Wears Prada (2006)'. Lauren Weisberger, the author of the book from which the movie is based, is from Scranton, Pennsylvania
  • While Jim is talking to Dwight, in his room after hearing him moan in his sleep, Dwight is holding the figurine he told Angela he gave back to her
  • When Dwight is saddened about Angela and her relationship with Andy, on his recorder he is playing "You Give Love A Bad Name" by Bon Jovi
  • When Angela lists her restaurant requirements to Andy she mentions "no vegetables." In previous episodes (Email Surveillance) Angela says she is a vegetarian
  • The cat Andy finds outside Vance Refrigeration and then gives to Angela appears to be the same cat Dwight attempted to give to her then abandoned inside the Vance Refrigeration office. (Season 4, episode 2)
  • The TripAdvisor page for Schrute Farms that Jim and Pam read their review is an actual page on TripAdvisor. Although Schrute Farms is fictitious, fans of the show have added their own fake reviews over the years commenting on the establishment and on Dwight and Mose. There a disclaimer on the page stating that place doesn't really exist but that didn't stop a complaint from one person who wanted to book a room there
  • When Jim and Pam are reading their Trip Advisor review about Shrute Farms, at one point you can see all of Dwight's Dundie Awards in his kitchen, next to the staircase
RATING: 8.9/10
