The Office (US) S4 E13 - 'Dinner Party' Even-Smaller-Review

That One Night.

BEST MOMENTS
  • Michael's elaborate ruse
  • 2 minutes in and I can ALREADY see that this dinner party is going to be the most awkward, cringe-inducing episode of the season
  • Jan sniffing her candles!
  • The video camera set up in the master bedroom
  • Michael's crappy little bed, poor man!
  • "If you ever need any help, I'll be just a phone call away" Jealous Jan - "I bet you are"
  • "I have the best trophy right here [hugs Jan]... aside from my Dundies"
  • Jan's WEIRD dancing (I could barely watch that scene haha)
  • Same with Jan and Michael's constant bickering
  • Michael running through the glass door to get an ice cream
  • Jan is SO jealous!
  • Angela stirring up sh*t!
  • I've actually never been so happy to see Dwight turn up!
  • Michael and his vasectomies
  • "The thought of popping one of your beets into my mouth makes me want to vomit"
  • "I can't prove it, but I think she might be trying to poison me"
  • Pam's poison paranoia
  • "What seems to be the problem officers?" "Not now Dwight"
  • "Do you wanna press charges?" "Would she get into trouble?" "Yeh she'd be charged"
  • Jan trying to fix Michael's Dundie was sweet
DID YOU KNOW?!*
  • This was said, by the cast members of the dinner party, to be the hardest episode to film, due to laughter
  • At the start of the episode, Jan informs Pam that in Spain, dinner sometimes isn't eaten until midnight. Later, when dinner is served, Michael's watch shows the time as just after midnight
  • At the dinner party, Michael introduced the three things he was proud of: The pine candle holder, the Dundies and the plasma TV. They are the only three items in the living room that belongs to him. Everything else is according to Jan's erratic taste
  • The song featured in the episode supposedly performed by Jan's former assistant, Hunter, was written by the episode writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky and Todd Fancey of The New Pornographers. Eisenberg and Stupnitsky wrote the lyrics, and Fancey wrote the music. The song was sung by Fancey
  • At 4:22, as Jan is beginning the tour of the master bedroom, you can see a George Foreman Grill on a stool, at the foot of Michael's bench/bed. A funny reference to Season 2, Episode 12 "The Injury" & Michael's love for grilled bacon first thing in the morning
  • Although they fail to share screen-time here, Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor) and Beth Grant (Dwight's Babysitter) would both go on to star in The Mindy Project (2012) four years later
RATING: 8.2/10
