Arrow S1 E3 - 'Lone Gunmen' Review

I Admire Your Work.
'Lone Gunmen' introduces Deadshot, a big name in DC comics and one that later reprises his role throughout the course of Arrow. A verified bad-ass and easily one of the best Green Arrow villains, it was great to see his introduction so early in the show's life. His brutal assassination of James Holder at the start is a good beginning and also establishes the darker tone of this psychopath.
Here is my short episode summary - Moira learns to be a better mother in the background and Tommy and Laurel go on a date. There is an epic battle near the end between the Hood and Deadshot and a good cliffhanger as Diggle learns Oliver's secret. Also Felicity is introduced in this episode and her chemistry with Stephen Amell is what earned her a permanent spot on the show the following season.
Overall, the episode is solid and the best so far, continuing Arrow's trend on improving on the previous week's instalment. Deadshot is always going to command screen presence and I wish we had seen more of him, but I know it won't be long until he returns to the small screen. Now Diggle is involved in the Hood's crusade we also don't have to listen to Oliver's voice-overs which is a mercy, as they were beginning to grate on me.

STARRING: Deadshot, James Holder, Yao Fei

EASTER EGGS:
- One of the multiple names tattooed on Deadshot is Glen Winter who is a director of photography on Arrow
- As a most likely nod to DC's The New 52, Deadshot's motel room number is 52
- The four clearly visible names in Oliver's notebook this episode (Ken Shane, Mark Piler, Yazmin Soze, and of course James Holder) all appear on Deadshot's body, as well as many names that bear similarity to partial names in Oliver's notebook. Ken Shane is the second unit director for Arrow
- The name "Andrew Diggle" can be seen tattooed on Deadshot's chest, foreshadowing the eventual plotline that Deadshot murdered John Diggle's brother.
- The address of the hotel that Deadshot hides in between contracts is 1700 Broadway. The offices of DC Comics are located at 1700 Broadway in New York City
- This could be considered the episode when Team Arrow was officially founded, as Diggle discovers Oliver's identity and it introduced future member Felicity

RATING: 8.2/10
