The Office (UK) S2 E6 - 'Interview' Review

Peaks and Troughs.

Season two has come to an end and it ends on a great episode, albeit an unsatisfying final note.

David Brent spends the episode doing his best to look at the positives in his life following his sacking. He endures a calamitous interview with a journalist, during which he is fired by the motivational speaking company. It all culminates in a broken figure bursting into tears in front of Jennifer and Neil, as David begs to keep his job in an actually fairly heartbreaking scene. It is left somewhat ambiguous as to whether David actually did lose his job, although it seems that he genuinely did which is very sad :( . Brent deserved a better ending, although hopefully this is provided in the Christmas Special which tied up the show following season 2.

Meanwhile, Tim made possibly the worst decision in his life by dumping the UNBELIEVABLY out of his league Rachel, only to then get rejected AGAIN by Dawn. It was a rough finale for Bilbo indeed, so here is hoping he and Dawn finally get together in that coveted Christmas Special, to stop teasing the viewers! The longing looks the pair both pulled at the end suggest that the end isn't over yet for these lovebirds.

Gareth is promoted to manager of the branch, which feels like the best ending for his character all things considered. We also get a QUALITY one liner from Sheila, who had previously never spoken, only to proclaim "I like blacks" in the middle of the staff room! There were some other hilarious moments which lifted this episode to stand as one of the best The Office (UK) has produced.

Overall, the finale may not have been satisfying, but it was full of funny quips and emotional moments that combined to create a great episode in itself.

DID YOU KNOW?!

  • The interviewer is played by none other than Olivia Colman, back before she became super famous!
  • This episode reunites Olivia Colman with Martin Freeman and Ricky Gervais who all worked together on TV comedy series Bruiser (2000)
RATING: 8.1/10
